What did you do for fitness before CrossFit? Did you play any sports growing up? I was considered the neighborhood tomboy in a skirt kind of kid. I grew up in a neighborhood where the kids were not allowed in the house till the street lights came on. The neighborhood kids and I were always playing something from; baseball, basketball, kickball, manhunt, fishing, and when winter came around it was ice skating, slaying, and manhunt in the snow.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? A friend of mine kept talking about someone she new that was doing crossfit. I looking into it when I met her and saw just how fit she was. I was sold!

What was your first workout and how did it go? How did you feel after? My first workout was Clean Jerks, Rowing, and Double Unders. Jump roping was something I didn’t mind so much as a little kid. Now that I am old, it is a workout!!!

Favorite CF Movements:  Clean Jerks / Clean Squats – I feel like I get a full body workout with these and Kirk is always pushing me beyond what “I think” I can do..

Least Favorite Movements: Pull Ups – #Goals.. I will get these!!

Favorite Cheat Meal: Brownies and Rice Krispy Treats

Favorite Paleo Meal: Sweet potatoes, steak, asparagus, and Paleo brownies

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you? I was originally born in Reno, NV but we moved right away to CT. I spent half my life there and the other half down here.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)? I was not motivated as much as I am now. Weight was becoming easier and easier to tack on and not so easy to keep off. I found myself even becoming more irritable. Working out is a huge stress reliever and changing a few things in my diet has helped with the energy and irritability as well. I am starting to drop the weight and definition is coming back!

What sort of unexpected changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit? Crossfit introduced me to different mobility movements that have helped so much with lower back pain and knee issues. It has also helped widen the different types of workouts that I do, so they are not the same thing all the time and working the same muscles. The biggest thing I have learned through crossfit was diet, I had no idea what Paleo really was or how different foods effected your body. Because of that introduction, I am amazed at what foods do for healing and how much “CRAP” the food industry dumps into food.

Any advice for people just getting started or new to CrossFit? Mobility is a huge key factor to working out, make sure you do it before and after class and throughout the day. It not only helps with being sore, it also helps you open up those areas to get a better workout out.

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit? My daughter plays softball and I have been involved as president on the board for little league and now on the board for her travel team. It keeps me very busy but my talent to multitask helps a great deal. I also own my own company doing bookkeeping for small businesses on the side. I try to stay as active as possible because I refuse to get old. So I also enjoy getting together with friends for a BBQ or picnic and playing a competitive game of kickball. My FAV!
