What did you do for fitness before CrossFit? Did you play any sports growing up?  I ran cross country & track in middle school & some years throughout high school. I also did soccer but my knee injuries did not allow me to play so I stuck with running. I have been running ever since and I ran my first marathon in February.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit?  I first got exposed years ago by my Dad when he used to watch the games on TV, not having a clue what the massive athletes were doing. As I was increasing my miles in my running I started to lose muscle mass and I wanted to find something to help me and that’s when I found crossfit bootcamp.

What was your first workout and how did it go? How did you feel after?  I do not remember my first bootcamp session but I do remember my first class as a member. We did one rep max deadlifts and I was unable to walk correctly the rest of the week.

Favorite CF Movements: Sled drags, prowlers and cleans

Least Favorite Movements: Double unders, I’m too uncoordinated for them

Favorite Cheat Meal: Froyo is my weakness and I will always give into chocolate

Favorite Paleo Meal: Steak with asparagus or green beans

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you? I have a nose piercing.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)? My body is more toned & I’m thinking more about what I eat.

What sort of unexpected changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit? I’m typically thinking about doing crossfit rather than running and I am always wanting to do a crossfit movement wherever I am.

Any advice for people just getting started or new to CrossFit?  There will be good workouts and bad workouts, movements that come easy and movements you think you will never do but practice makes perfect!

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?  I am obsessed with my nephew, I love doing any outdoor activity, spend most of my time at work, school or I am working out. I love to thrift shop and run races and I have a surprisingly HUGE appetite.

What did you do for fitness before CrossFit? Did you play any sports growing up? Bicycling, running & soccer.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Almost all my friends are into fitness; they sell products online, do Crossfit and also join different fitness competitions. The first time I was exposed to Crossfit, I was currently living in Orange County, California and a friend of mine took me to his Crossfit gym. I’ve loved it ever since.

What was your first workout & how did it go?  How did you feel after? My first workout was running for about 3 miles, doing lunges and squats. I wanted to throw up after I was done.

Favorite CF Movements: Box Jumps, Front Squats and Thrusters

Least Favorite Movements: Burpees & Clean and Jerk

Favorite Cheat Meal: A giant burger with everything in it and sweet potatoes fries on the side with a DIET COKE.

Favorite Paleo Meal: Salmon with veggies on the side and a little bit of brown rice.

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you? They don’t know I’m extremely adventurous and love adrenaline.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)? I’ve lost a lot weight and my body is toning up little by little. I feel much healthier and energetic each day

What sort of unexpected changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit? I’m becoming addicted to Crossfit and when I can’t make it to class I get very anxious. It’s my stress reliever.

Any advice for people just getting started or new to CrossFit? My advice is to not give up, work hard until the end, and learn every movement as best as possible. Practice outside the Crossfit gym and become better at it.

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit? I love fashion, traveling and dancing Salsa with a good dancing partner.

What did you do for fitness before CrossFit? Did you play any sports growing up? When I was in middle school I played football and became pretty good, but once I got into highschool I wanted nothing to do with football, and other sports in general. Until I graduated high school I was never really committed for fitness. I was always on and off about running or going to the gym.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? I first got exposed by always seeing Instagram post of a friend of mine in CrossFit. Something as small as a post got me to look further into how to join. My girlfriend and I both saw the bootcamp program and joined as soon as we could.

What was your first workout and how did it go? How did you feel after? My first real crossfit workout was tough, It was all movements that were foreign to me. I especially remember doing Prowler, I only pushed it for about 40-50 yards and I couldn’t go on for the rest of the way. Afterwards, besides feeling unbelievably sore, I was glad I had finished my first workout, and was thirsty for some more.

Favorite CF Movements: Push Jerk, Squat Clean . “Speed!”

Least Favorite Movements: Front Squats, Sit Ups ( you’ll hear my screaming if we’re doing these )

Favorite Cheat Meal: A nice juicy Hamburger or Cheeseburger with fries.

Favorite Paleo Meal: Chicken with a bunch of veggies, and a Paleo Protein shake

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you? I am an amatuer photographer

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)? The biggest change I have seen is my cardio. When I started I couldn’t run a mile without busting a lung. One month later I was curious to how much I could run and ended up jogging 6 miles almost non stop. My nutrition is completely different. I cooked my first meal a week after starting CrossFit, and I now cook all my meals. This helped me establish more control over what was going into my body and greatly benefited me. I have seen muscles grow that I’ve never known of before, and that was pretty exciting to see.

What sort of unexpected changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit? For a long part of my life I’ve always been short of confidence. For the first time in years i’m able to feel confident in whatever I am doing ( in a healthy way). This motivates me greatly and it keeps me striving for more. It’s also awesome having clothes fit me like never before.

Any advice for people just getting started or new to CrossFit? Be careful with what you eat. Nutrition snuck up on me when I paid no attention to it, and now it’s my main focus. It keeps me in line with workouts and gives me the energy to complete them. I wouldn’t be seeing improvements if it wasn’t for nutrition.

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit? I’m a photographer, I take photos of anything but my main interest in Urban Photography. I also love helping others out by providing them with quality photos. I am a freshmen in Florida SouthWestern State College with interest to become a nurse.

What did you do for fitness before CrossFit? Did you play any sports growing up?  I’ve been playing sports since I was about 4 years old.  I’m actually hard pressed to think of a childhood memory that didn’t involve playing some sport.  My main sports were soccer, track, and baseball in middle school and high school.  I was actually lucky enough to play on an international soccer team for three years during high school and got to travel all over the world! During college I was on the crew, soccer, softball, lacrosse and rugby team. After college I discovered triathlon and fell in love with the sport.  I wound up getting sponsored, racing ironman and coaching while running a triathlon shop in NYC.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? I had my first child, Taylor, about 6 months after moving to Naples. Taylor was born a little early and was born with very little muscle tone.  After spending about 2 years taking care of Taylor’s medical issues I realized that I had totally lost all of my fitness and had gained a ton of weight. I didn’t have enough time to get back into triathlon so I started looking around for something that wouldn’t take too much time but would kick my butt into shape.  I did some ‘googling’ and decided CrossFit was probably a perfect fit for both my personality and time restrictions. I found a gym and tried out a class.

What was your first workout and how did it go? How did you feel after? My first WOD is a bit of a blur but I remember burpees, squats and I think deadlifts.  I would say the workout was a little overwhelming given I was so out of shape and totally clueless about form but at the same time it definitely peaked my interest. I remember being so sore for at least 2-3 days after that workout but to be honest that is what kept me coming back … I love feeling sore since it makes you feel like you accomplished something!

Favorite CF Movements: Thrusters and Cleans … I love a challenge!

Least Favorite Movements: Doubles … I feel like I was never able to make any progress with these!

Favorite Cheat Meal: There are so many its hard to say but I do love my pasta after all I’m Italian!

Favorite Paleo Meal: Shepherd’s pie(modified of course ;))

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you? Haha … most of my friends/family know everything about me … I tend to talk a lot but I guess most people don’t know that I like to read … I tend to do it when no one is around and it goes against my personality since I have a hard time staying still!

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)? I feel strong in a way that is so different from the strength I gained in the other sports I have played. My energy levels are up but at the same time I’m sleeping so much better at night.  Since combining the paleo diet with the CrossFit workouts i’m finally making some progress towards losing weight and more importantly improving my body composition!

What sort of unexpected changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit? I finally feel like its ok for me to take care of myself and not feel guilty … I’ve struggled over the last few years to balance spending time with my kids and taking care of myself.

Any advice for people just getting started or new to CrossFit? Don’t be scared … just keep showing up!  It will always hurt after the workout but you will learn to embrace the pain!

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit? I mainly spend my extra time hanging out with my kids … having a 6 year old and a 10 month old in the house doesn’t leave much time for hobbies.  I do dream about getting back into cycling and triathlon but no time for that now!

What did you do for fitness before CrossFit? Did you play any sports growing up? I was considered the neighborhood tomboy in a skirt kind of kid. I grew up in a neighborhood where the kids were not allowed in the house till the street lights came on. The neighborhood kids and I were always playing something from; baseball, basketball, kickball, manhunt, fishing, and when winter came around it was ice skating, slaying, and manhunt in the snow.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? A friend of mine kept talking about someone she new that was doing crossfit. I looking into it when I met her and saw just how fit she was. I was sold!

What was your first workout and how did it go? How did you feel after? My first workout was Clean Jerks, Rowing, and Double Unders. Jump roping was something I didn’t mind so much as a little kid. Now that I am old, it is a workout!!!

Favorite CF Movements:  Clean Jerks / Clean Squats – I feel like I get a full body workout with these and Kirk is always pushing me beyond what “I think” I can do..

Least Favorite Movements: Pull Ups – #Goals.. I will get these!!

Favorite Cheat Meal: Brownies and Rice Krispy Treats

Favorite Paleo Meal: Sweet potatoes, steak, asparagus, and Paleo brownies

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you? I was originally born in Reno, NV but we moved right away to CT. I spent half my life there and the other half down here.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)? I was not motivated as much as I am now. Weight was becoming easier and easier to tack on and not so easy to keep off. I found myself even becoming more irritable. Working out is a huge stress reliever and changing a few things in my diet has helped with the energy and irritability as well. I am starting to drop the weight and definition is coming back!

What sort of unexpected changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit? Crossfit introduced me to different mobility movements that have helped so much with lower back pain and knee issues. It has also helped widen the different types of workouts that I do, so they are not the same thing all the time and working the same muscles. The biggest thing I have learned through crossfit was diet, I had no idea what Paleo really was or how different foods effected your body. Because of that introduction, I am amazed at what foods do for healing and how much “CRAP” the food industry dumps into food.

Any advice for people just getting started or new to CrossFit? Mobility is a huge key factor to working out, make sure you do it before and after class and throughout the day. It not only helps with being sore, it also helps you open up those areas to get a better workout out.

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit? My daughter plays softball and I have been involved as president on the board for little league and now on the board for her travel team. It keeps me very busy but my talent to multitask helps a great deal. I also own my own company doing bookkeeping for small businesses on the side. I try to stay as active as possible because I refuse to get old. So I also enjoy getting together with friends for a BBQ or picnic and playing a competitive game of kickball. My FAV!
