Just in case you live in a cave, last week began the CrossFit Open Series. This is an exciting time for the CrossFit community because it brings members together for five weeks to compete in the qualification process for the CrossFit Games.
Just to put the Open into perspective, last year over 350,000 people registered for the Open. Of those 350,000 people, approximately .00008% of those registered for the Open made it to the CrossFit Games.
So if we know that we aren’t competing to make it to the Games why are we doing it? Well….. because it’s so much fun!
The thrill of the weekly workout announcements, the energy of Saturday group competition, and having someone judge and score your workout makes it that much more fun to compete in. Matching that energy in a regular group class would be impossible.
It is this community camaraderie that I sense every year competing in the Open that made me want to start this business over seven years ago. I’m so happy that I did.
To everyone competing in the Open. Work hard and cheer harder. Give everything you got on every workout. Don’t hold back. Most importantly have fun!
If you’re not competing, please come cheer your community on by visiting your gym during the scheduled Open workouts. You’ll gain a new admiration for your fellow competitors. Who knows maybe next year you’ll compete in it too!
As the Crossfit founder once said, “the magic is in the movement, the art is in the programming, the science is in the explanation, and the fun is in the community.”
