The goal of the Barbell Club is to provide a class dedicated to improving strength and technique based on Powerlifting and Olympic weight training. It is included as part of the Unlimited CrossFit Naples membership.
In addition to improving proficiency, members of the Barbell Club also compete in local weightlifting meets.
What is the Barbell Club?
Barbell Club was started as a way to help people improve in their strength using traditional barbell methods. Meant as a supplement to normal group fitness classes, Barbell Club will help you become stronger, more confident and comfortable when it comes to using lifts that utilize the barbell. Many of our members will take a group class and follow that up with Barbell Club. We always program that in mind and the best  training session you’ll get all week!
What type of movements can I expect to see?
The barbell is the most effective tool to get you strong, but it’s not quite as simple as just picking one up. Unfortunately, many athletes and trainers do not maximize the effectiveness of these basic barbell movements in training and many athletes never reach their full potential due to faulty mechanics.
We will introduce you to the concept of linear progression and focus on increasing the plethora of barbell lifts. Athletes will learn these basic barbell movements, refine technique, and train hard. Once lifters have outgrown a basic linear progression they will be transitioned into a personalized program geared towards their individual goals, such as Olympic Weightlifting, Powerlifting, Strongman or Crossfit with a “sterngth- bias.”
We focus on several different lifts that involve the barbell. This includes but is not limited to…
- Clean and Jerk
- Overhead Work

Is the Barbell Club for everyone?
In order to participate in the barbell club participants must be sufficient in their movements. Assessments are available as well.
What are the Movement Requirements to joining the Barbell Club?
Barbell Club is meant as an advanced class that helps people who are sufficient in the movements (snatch, clean and jerk, back squat and deadlift) and make the adjustments necessary to advance in their lifts.
Some movement requirements that will be needed include:
- Being able to perform a proper Back Squat, Deadlift, and Strict Press.
- Being able to perform an Overhead Squat at full depth with an empty bar.
- Being proficient in performing a Power Clean and Power Snatch.
If you are unable to perform these movements successfully at the moment… don’t worry! Work on improving these movements in CrossFit classes for a month or so will quickly get you up to speed. You can always pre-purchase a few sessions of Personal Training to get you there faster (learn more).
When is the Barbell Club?
Currently, we will be holding our Barbell club classes on Saturday at 9:30. Reservations are required.
How much does the Barbell Club cost?
Barbell Club is Free to Unlimited Members and $20/class for non-local drop-ins.
